Hi,
I got computer glasses from a local OD.
He told me that are made from a resin with anti-scratch coating.
When I picked up the glasses I tried them in the office and found
that the right eye is somewhat blurry. The OD told me that the eye
may need time to adjust, so I took glasses home.
Then I found that the problem is not with my eye, but the lenses
have several blurry spots. When I move the lenses sideways
between my eye and the computer monitor, I can see the blurry spots
move and obscure various letters on the screen.
When I looked at the glass surface at an angle, I can see a kind of
"wrinkled" appearance, kind of like water surface under a light wind.
Wearing these glasses gave me a headache, so I brought them back,
OD confirmed the defect and sent glasses back for replacement.
A week later I got replacement lenses. I tried them in the office
and they appeared OK. I took them home and washed them with
a mild soap and water and wiped out with the soft cloth, which came with the glasses.
Then I used glasses for a couple of hours during the first day and they appeared OK.
But the next morning they were completely blurry! Even worse
then the first pair.
I don't understand what could have happened to them.
I understand that the first pair could have been damaged
my manufacturer or, more likely, by somebody, who applied
the coating. But the second pair developed the blurry spots
while being stored in a case overnight.
How that could have happened?
Could I have some aggressive chemical in the air of my house,
which partially dissolved the coating? (I do NOT have Chinese dry wall).
Is it possible that the coating was not completely cured when I picked
the glasses in the office?
The next question: should I demand replacement by the same type
of resin lens with the same type of coating or should I go back
to the good old glass lenses? Or ask for a resin, but without coating?
I really do not want to get a third pair of blurry glasses.
Thank you
John
