Candidate for hard contact lenses?

Hi, everyone...

I currently wear glasses and soft contact lenses. My prescriptions,
taken from the lens packages, are:

BC 8.8
PWR -3.00
ADD High
(I'm pretty sure this is for my left eye. Wal-Mart marked the boxes,
which are somewhere else right now.)

The only difference between them is the power, which is -2.00 in the
other eye. They're Bausch and Lomb SofLens Multifocal, if that
matters.

I can wear the lenses, but only for about half their intended life (I
get a month out of them) and only for 8 hours or so. I could probably
last a little longer if I had something to distract my attention from
the dryness and discomfort.

What I'd LIKE is to be able to wear contacts comfortably from the time
I awake until bedtime; I used to sleep in soft lenses, but my ability
to do that disappeared at about the same time I had to switch to
multifocal lenses.

Should I even ask my doctor about hard contacts? My next appointment
is in April, and I'm trying to arm myself with alternatives ahead of
time. I do well with glasses, but I get really aggravated when I bang
them into things. Plus, my nose was broken as a kid and I have a heck
of a time trying to keep them fitting properly. I have a job that
takes me outdoors frequently, too, so they're a problem sometimes in
snow and rain.

I just turned 49 years old, have worn some type of eye correction
since I was 25, and tried RGP lenses years ago without success. I
think I'd do better now, though. I live with a smoker, but have not
smoked myself for about a year. I drink moderately.

You will need to talk to your optometrist and hes the one that can
diagnoise you. How are we to know if someone over the internet is a
candidate? Good luck

Usually it does not work well converting someone from a soft cl fit
to a gas perm unless that individual is highly motivated to make the
switch. Options you should explore is to try a silicone hydrogel
(they are not available in multifocals though) or the cooper proclear
multifocal (works well for many people with dry eye issues).

PureVision in the same design as soflens multifocal is due out later
this year (they said it was due out late last year as well). That will
resolve the problem. In the meantime, try lubricants, monovision
PureVision etc.

OK. I'm motivated, but I'm not sure about how highly. I get
aggravated with all the futzing I have to do with soft lenses, and I
remember hard lenses being even worse. I think I got one stuck in my
eye once, and later couldn't get one out of some solution or other.

I use them now, with limited results. I've tried Clearz 2 and Blink
'n' Clean. They work, but by, say, 8:00 PM I'm aggravated and
irritated enough to take the lenses out.

Works, but not at night. I sometimes have to drive at night, and
often do so just for enjoyment. Monovision destroys my depth
perception, or something.
