My background.
48 y/o male, high myopia, 2 retinal detachments (bilateral) (1996/97).
Moderate Cataract in L eye.
Cataract surgery 3/3/05 in the left eye. Complaint #1: blind spot/void dead
center of vision. The image I see when I close my eyes is a bright
geometric shape while looks like a house with a roof. My Dr. says he has
never seen it and suspects 'something photo retinal' apparently caused by
the surgical microscope light. This void is slowly lightening (I can see
through it now). Re: the complaint, my Dr. says " We are traveling through
unchartered waters here"
Saw a Retinal Specialist Friday 3/11. Conducted Fluor? test (pics of eye)
which were normal. No edema. Pressure = 26. He did say that if there was
Photo Retinal Injury, he would see it on this test. Said these injuries
'usually get better".
Compliaint #2: While my periferal vision was clearing 2-3 day following
surgery, it is now blurred and cloudy. I could only read the Large E on the
vision test today 3/14/05. My Dr. says the condition is clouding of the
capsule and can be treated by laser. I was under the impression that this
condition took months to years for form - not 1 week.
Obviously, I am very concerned. When I asked my Dr. as to when the patient
normally sees better he said "Now" (1 1/2 weeks following surgery).
Unfortunately, I am basically blind in my left eye.
Recommendations, insight, opinions welcome.
