Contact lens difficulties

Living in the States now, but up until 5 years ago lived in the UK.
I wore contact lenses in the UK for around 12 years, started suffering
from a rash on my hands, couldnt hygenically take them in and out so
stopped wearing them.
A few years ago I decided to start wearing lenses again.....NOT.....I
tried various kinds over a 4 week interval and none of them seemed to
fit/work properly.
In the UK the contacts were perfect, I had better eyesight
(marginally) through the contacts than through my glasses, no dry
eyes, no problems at all.
Here in the States I had the same problem with all the lenses that I
tried.......I just couldnt see properly through them. Every time I
blinked it seemed that I had to refocus. Artificial tears didnt do
anything, but my eyes didnt feel dry anyway. The contacts felt
comfortable too. If I focused without blinking then the focus would
stay, but then as soon as I blinked again then the focus would go, it
was like they werent connected properly.
After having a perfect record with contacts in the UK and then the
disasterous attempt over here, it leads me to believe that maybe there
are some differences.
I would say that I did think the contacts were a little larger over
here, but that may be because I am looking for something to blame.

Just coming up to eye exam time and I am thinking to try out the
contacts again or to go for Lasik surgery which is why I am looking to
find advice on why the contacts didnt suit the last time I tried them.

Thanks
Mandy

It seems quite clear that your symptoms are of mental origin, isn't it?

Just what do you mean?? That is quite a stupid answer isnt it!!

I asked for some sound reasoning not for someone to call me a head case.

What type of contacts have you been wearing? Maybe your US contacts are
moving too much with the blink? - just a guess. Maybe your eyes are dry
(even though they don't feel it). There are quite a few possibilities for
what could be causing your experience. Could you find out the exact type of
contacts from your previous optometrist in the UK? and try and have them
supplied in the US?
I would not go for laser surgery until you have worked out what is the cause
of your current problems. What does your current optometrist think?
