Hi

I am due to have contact lens implants on the 31 July and 4 Aug. I am
having Artisan Lenses.

I have done a lot of research into this and am more than satisfied
about the medical safety and advantages of this treatment over Lasik
for someone with my prescription (-9 and -8.5)

What I would really like, however, is to be able to find out from
someone who has had this treatment what it is really like to have it
done, and what it is like afterwards.

Has anyone here had this treatment?

By the way, I am based in London, UK.

Sounds like a good idea to me, but have you also considered Crystalens or
similar implants? The Crystalens attaches to the muscles in the eye and
provide a degree of accommodation. This means that you will be able to
focus far and midrange and possibly read a menu, all without the need for
glasses. I believe the down side is a longer recovery period after surgery
because eye drops are used to paralyze the muscles during the period of time
needed for the muscles to heal and remain attached to the lens. Like the
lens you are considering, insurance may not cover the expense.

They have been doing this procedure here in the USA for about three months.

This will not work if you already have had cataract surgery. It is being
done on people with and without cataracts. If you are relatively young,
early forties or less, you still have accommodation provided by your normal
lens. If you are in your fifties this "clear lens replacement" might be a
good option.

Good luck,

Dave
