Cylinder Axis Eye Strain

Hi:

Male 54 years old.

Broken frames needed an eye check.

I asked my optometrist to replicate my old prescription (4 years ago):

Here's my old my old prescription:

Sphere Cyl Axis
OD -3.75 +0.50 62
OS -3.50


Here's his new prescription:

Sphere Cyl Axis
OD -3.75 -0.25 115
OS -3.50

I asked him about the change in cylinder and axis.
He told me it would not make any difference from the old prescription.

I am now getting eye strain with this new prescription.

Is this related to the cylinder and axis change.

Perhaps. It is a matter of your judgment. Can you
go back to your old prescription?

no one can simply tell you that over the internet. least of all Otis
Brown, who posts frequently in this newsgroup but has no training in
optics and has no clinical experience. furthermore he didn't even
stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either

the cause of your eyestrain is certainly not "a matter of your
judgment" as he writes.

as you note, there is indeed an axis change-- from 152 to 115.
however the amount of astigmatism you have is quite low so it likely
is not a major contributing factor to the problem. what is a more
likely to be the cause is the increase in minus power in your new
prescription. Your old OD prescription, when written in minus
cylinder form, is -3.25 - 0.50 X 152. Your new prescription is
basically about -0.50D stronger in your right eye which could affect
presbyopes like you easily. Were you having any problems seeing at
distance in your right eye with your original glasses? does the
current strain you report in your new glasses seem worse in one eye
versus the other? with your new glasses on, how does your near vision
compare on the right eye versus the left?
