How did you cope with Anxiety before Cataract Surgery?

I'm having a surgery on 7/12. What's really killing me nowadays is not my
blurry vision but anxiety. Just thinking about the surgery depresses me and
almost causes a panic attack! I know that it doesn't do me any good
whatsoever to be in that kind of negative mood. But I guess I just can't
help it. If you had a cataract surgery, were you like me while waiting for
it? If so, how did you cope with anxiety?

Apart from the knowledge that cataract surgery has just about the
highest success rate of ANY surgery you can have, you probably haven't
got a lot to gain from a vision group - people who contribute to this
group are, with a few notable exceptions, experts on eyes & vision but
not necessarily psychology. Maybe try a group which deals with anxiety
and other psychology issues?

Forgot to mention joints. Also anti-anxiety meds -- Dr.s love to prescribe
'em, but they are not too good for you as you could get hooked.

Relax. It's a breeze (I had both eyes done a year ago and if I'd have
known then what I know now I'd have done it a year earlier). I was
nervous because as an o.d. I've watched lots of the procedures and knew
exactly what they were doing. If they don't offer one ask for a Valium
before they stick the i.v. line in your arm/hand.
