I don't understand much medical terminology, so please bear with me.
For some reason I need to understand a vision report it says right eye
is 0,7 and left eye is 0.8.
Is it a serious near sight problem with 0.7 and 0.8?
Thanks in advance.

Dear KeeKee,

Subject: The "physics" of the issue.

The traditinal method of measurement was to read 0.9 size letters at 6
meters. (Or 20/20, in English).

In Europe, this was simplified this way:

The fraction 6/6, is simplified to "1".

The fraction 6/12 is simplified to "1/2" or "0.5".

I am certain you will get a torrent of "answers" about this issue.

Best,

Otis
(Engineer)

Otis is pathologically dishonest and actually hurts people.

He knows just enough about vision and eyesight to render him quite
dangerous.

You'd do well to ignore him and wait for responses from the
caring, compassionate eye doctors who DO also participate in this site.

You will need to call the eye doctor who wrote the report and ask.
There are several different systems that can be used to measure visual
acuity and more than one uses decimal notation. What those numbers
mean depends upon which system was used.

And even if we knew the visual acuity, knowing visual acuity tells us
nothing about any vision problem, refractive error or disease that the
eyes may have.

Besides a ETDRS logMar system, what other ones might apply here?

Some countries use a decimal notation to convert the Snellen fraction
to a decimal. This results in decimals that are opposite to logMar,
ie 0.8 logMar is 20/125 and 0.8 decimal is 20/25. See below for a
conversion chart link.

Dr. Judy,

Thanks for pointing this out.
Getting a "zero" for 20/20 (come to think of it) would be hard to
take...
