help briot 5000s

I bought a used Briot 5000s. The upper support for the frame holder on the tracer was moving so I took it apart so that I could tape the bracket. I'm having two problems now. The easiest is that I don't know where to put the spring that was in the tracer. It was loose and came off. Secondly, somehow it seems that something is out of position. When I tried to position a frame to trace, the stylus won't go far enough towards the front of the tracer to trace the frame. Anybody?
