photodynamic treatment and visual disturbances

I had a photodynamic treatment (PDT) with Visudyne on Spt 8 to treat a
very small leak of fluid on the back of the retina. The leak had
caused my visin to decease from 20/30 to 20/70. I do not have macular
degeneration.

After the treatment the doctor told me that my vision may decrease but
would come back in 3 to 7 days. He also said that the improvement from
the treatment would take 2 to 4 weeks to take effect. In fact, my
vision acuity deceased maybe 1 or 2 lines the two days following the
PDT treatment but it seems to have improved to close to what it was
before the treatment.

However, starting yesterday Spt 12 I have a small irregular area near
the center of vision that is dark. Is this one of the side effects
that will disappear in 7 days?

Th write up on Visudyne at
http://healthinfo.cedars-sinai.edu/l...sp?hwid=rt1252
says
"Following treatment with this medicine you may develop temporary
visual disturbances that may affect your ability to drive and operate
machinery. If affected you should not drive or use machines until your
vision improves".

Thanks for your help,

Carlos

If this does not seem like the side effect your doctor described, call your
doctor.

Thank you Dr Judy. I did phone my doctor yesterday and he saw me
today. He says the eye is as expected except for the grey spot which
is caused by fluid. He says he expects the grey spot to disappear but
cannot tell with certainty. Has anyone else had this side effect of
Visudyne and what was the outcome? It would ne good to have some
statistics on how often the grey spot occurs and how often it goes
away.
