Right Eye Problem

On my way home this evening, my right eye suddenly seemed hazy like
when you wake up in the morning and have to blink a few times to get
the tears flowing. Oncoming headlights had a bothersome haze around
them as did street lamps. I kept blinking but it did not help. The eye
feels kind of irritated and a bit gritty. Bright lights don't hurt to
look at. But there is a distortion of lights that I look at in the
dark. The hazy distortion is not round and equal around the light.
instead it is somewhat star shaped. Vision in that eye may also be
slighty blurry. I read that this type of blurring which cannot be
cleared by blinking is caused by serious underlying eye disorders.
Doese anyone have any ideas. I'm thinking of making an appointment
with an opthalmologist.

Thanks

Don't just "think" of making and appointment, but do it urgently. It
may be serious (detached vitreous or retina?) and time is of the
essence in some cases. If it persists in the morning act immediately.

I have an appointment Monday. The doctor said I don't have symptoms of
anything requiring emergency treatment. The eye is very itchy today.
It's also watering slightly. No visual inpairment aside for the glare
around lights at night.

Thinking of the common, simple things first: Dry eye

- causes a mildly itchy irritation, and epitheliopathy & poor tear film
quality causes hazy or even slightly blurry vision. Can be triggered by
air-con or heater in car, blowing dry air onto your face.

Sure it could be something else but dry eye has gotta be the most likely
explanation, given the poster's information.
