Stupid Eye Doctor!(?) Wrong Prescription(?)

I have recently gone back to an eye doctor and tried to get back into
wearing contact lenses. After two tries at getting the prescription
right in my RIGHT eye, I gave up and went back to wearing my old
glasses. I could see just fine out of the left eye with the contact
in, but looking through the right eye made everything fuzzy and blurry
looking. When both eyes were open at the same time, the entirety of
my vision was slightly blurred because of this. I assumed that this
was because the power for my right eye (-7.00) was wrong. I tried the
contact given to me for my LEFT eye in my RIGHT and was surprised to
see that I could see very well. Over time, however, I noticed that I
was having a bit of trouble seeing things closer to my face than i was
used to. Both of the BC and DIA values on the contacts are the same,
but the power for my left eye is -7.50. Iw as told by someone, not an
optometrist of course, that wearing the same power lenses in both eyes
will lead to poor vision of things close in. Is this true? Are there
other hazards to wearing the same prescription in both eyes? Should I
be trying to get a similar, but different power for my right eye? Is
there more to this contact lens issue than I realize? Any insight
would be GREATLY appreciated.

Dear Mister Stick,

Could be both?

or perhaps the contact did not fit properly. or perhaps you have some
uncorrected astigmatism and will require a toric lens.

your observation suggests that -7.50 is too strong for your right eye
but works fine for your left eye. this implies the prescription is
different between your two eyes-- a common situation.

No. this is a simplistic statement and the situation varies
considerably from person to person.

No. it depends entirely on your prescription.

you should be trying to let your optometrist know about your
difficulties and let them help you choose the best lenses. that's
their job and they know way more about it than you give them credit
for. Entitling this thread "stupid eye doctor, wrong prescription" is
inappropriate

this is exactly the problem! you, and your friend, do not know much
about contact lenses. see your eye doctor and explain your
observations.
