Vision problem help

I thought I'd ask here on behalf of someone experiencing problems with their
vision who posted the following on another forum. She had LASIK six years
ago and lists these problems, some of which appear to be worsening. She's
seen an optician who has checked the retina and optical nerve, but found no
problem there.

She says that one day recently "i could not see the sky, or the white walls
of my friend's new flat - i could only see a mass of thousands and thousands
of white sparkly dots."
And:
"my eyes feel very uncomfortable with pressure today - quite literally as if
they are about to burst in their sockets. The dots that I am seeing are
horrendous, every item I look at is basically composed of millions of
shifting dots rather than ordinary vision."

<Quote>

1 i have constant eye pain and headaches which the new glasses i bought
have not cured

2 my eyes feel sore when closed sometimes

3 i have terrible after-images, like after a camera flash, but just after
looking at text or my shoes against the floor. i see them all the time,
imprinted onto everything.

4 i get a lot of floaters

5 my vision flickers - like visual snow

6 i have always had a tiny bit ghosting on higher contrast images with my
right eye. now it is happening with both eyes and it's slowly getting worse.

Any thoughts/advice are most welcome.

Your friend needs a comprehensive evaluation by a competent doctor.
Please return and let us know what the doctor finds.

She doesn't need an optician, she needs to see an ophthalmologist.
I'd think it even warrants turning up at A&E.

I'd agree with that. I did think that it may perhaps just be migraine
related and don't like to alarm people, so I thought I'd post here and see
what response there'd be. However she has gone to A&E this evening as she is
also now experiencing a swelling in the corner of the eye.

How can an optician check the retina? Is it allowed in the UK? She needs to
see an ophthalmologist, a Medical Doctor who specializes in the eye.

Good. Let us know what the eventual diagnosis is. I'd be interested
to know.

Am not sure if I'll have that info, but she's been given an appointment with
a neurologist and is to have some scans done (presumably CAT/MRI).

I have this same problem. 2 and a half months ago I got a new pair of
glasses. 2 days later I had the constant eye pain, visual snow,
flickering vision, lots of floaters, and really long afterimages. Even
when I close my eyes I see lights. It has also caused me a lot of
anxiety and depression. First the doctors told me they were migraines.
Now they are blaming my anxiety and depression. I am still seeking
answers. The symptoms are constant and so severe I had to quit work
and drop out of school. I've been researching the is thing called
persistent migraine aura without infarction. It has all the symptoms
and is very under diagnosed.

You do not say what medical specialties you consulted. That would give a
good clue. It is very possible that your problem has nothing to do with your
new glasses. I would consult a ophthalmological neurologist. What you
describe sounds like it can range from trivial to very serious.
