Wearing contacts and eyeglasses - time to adjust

Hello,

I have been wearing hard contacts (RGP) for the last 16 years, 14-16 hours a
day, weekends included.
Since I have too much trouble with dry eyes, dust, the daily cleaning, ... I
decided to go (partly) back to eyeglasses. I bought some nice frames with
ultra-thin glasses (I have -9 and -10) and now I'm getting used to them - my
sight is not so good as with contacts (minification, smaller angle etc) but
at least I can walk by the sea without worrying that some sand grains will
get stuck behind my lenses :-)

So now for my question : how long does it take for the eyes (cornea) to
completely adjust themselves to the eyeglasses ? I recently wore my glasses
for 3 days in a row but didn't feel anything special when I put my lenses in
after this period (I still wear them when going to work).

Thanks
Matthias

may take a month for your cornea to revert back if you never wear RGPs
again. Maybe you can try soft contacts, they could be more comfortable?
-10 is really bad eyesight and thats alot of minification with glasses.
How well do you see with RGP contacts? with glasses? How blurry is
everything without correction, how far can you count fingers? Just
curious!

Ummm, The OP didn't say the RGPs were uncomfortable.
In fact, I read the question as something like this:

There is an adaptation period associated with RGPs.
If you don't wear your RGPs for a while you will experience
the adaptation period again. How long is the period
without wearing RGPs before you have to experience
the adaptation period again?

The OP said they plan to wear glasses sometimes and
continue with the RGPs for work and whenever. I got the
impression that they thought after 3 days without they
would experience some discomfort when resuming.

Yes, for the moment, I still want to combine my RPG lenses with eyeglasses.
I just wanted to know how long I can wear my eyeglasses for an extended
period without feeling any discomfort when putting my lenses back in. Soft
contacts are out of the question since I don't have enough tear production
(well that is what my contact lens specialist said).

Without correction, I can read a newspaper at a distance of 10 centimeters
(4 inches). Beyond that it's all blurry :-)

Ace doesn't know what he's talking about. He gets all his information
off the internet and is not an expert.
