I see lots of postings on your rights to your contact lens
prescription; does the same hold true for your eyeglass prescription?

My sister tells me the mall store where she gets her eyes examined
won't give her the prescription. If this is not legal, does anyone
have a link showing this? This is in Illinois.

Thanks -

That helped me find these links:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...ontactalrt.htm

"Your eye care provider must give you a copy of your contact lens and
eyeglass prescriptions - whether or not you ask for them. You should
get your eyeglass prescription at the end of your eye exam, and your
contact lens prescription when your fitting is complete"

Weird. I've never been given my prescription without asking.

I have never gotten an Rx without asking, and even then it was not a
pleasant experience. Always look at your Rx carefully to make sure there are
no transcription "mistakes" when they write your Rx from their records.

I get my eyecare at two different places. At the HMO, I am handed a
prescription after the exam. I don't have to ask. At the private
practice place, I have to ask. There is nothing unpleasant about it,
though. I ask, and they cheerfully give it to me.
