A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with a detached retina. The
opthamologist wants to see her again in one month. I was under the
impression that a detached retina required immediate surgery to save the eye
sight. She is also just starting the second trimester of her pregnancy.

    TIA

Depends on the nature and location of the detachment. Small central
isolated detachments (forming a sort of bubble) do not require immediate
laser work. They may resolve better on their own. Also, small
inferiorly-located detachments often do not progress and may resolve on
    there own also.
