How to mark PD accurately for progressive lens

    My optician places his finger about 15" away and asked me to focus on
    the finger. He then put two dots on the lens that I was wearing. Is
    this accurate. Have read somewhere that it is more accurate to focus
    on a distant object when marking PD. which is critical for progressive
    lens.
