I have habitually worn RGP lenses for 38 years with no trouble. I recently got a new pair because my old ones were scratched. The new pair felt uncomfortable, and within a day my left eye was stinging and red. The right lens wasn't too bad but was stuck tightly to my eyeball when I tried to remove it. I wore my specs for a few days then tried again. The same thing happened. As soon as I went back to my old lenses, the discomfort ceased.
My optometrist did not see me but she contacted the manufacturers, who insisted (of course) that the fit, materials and process were exactly the same as before. My optometrist said I should persevere because the new lenses 'are like a pair of new shoes that need breaking in'.
I have never heard such bunk! All my previous lenses have been comfortable from new. How am I supposed to 'get used to' new lenses which are physically damaging my eyes?

It is not as though I am totally new to contact lens wearing. I might add also that my cleaning routines are absolutely scrupulous.
