I have a question about an anomaly I experience when using an optometric grade pinhole paddle. When I view a Snellen chart through one of the pin holes I see a cloudy area that occupies part of the center of the pinhole view. The cloudy area only obscures about 50% of the view through the pinhole. However, I am not able to see past the cloudy center. I can see the chart on the periphery of the cloudy area up to the outer edge of the pinhole. Does anyone know why the view through the pinhole is obstructed by this central gray area? I am doing this without glasses.

The central gray area you're observing when looking through the pinhole could be related to a few factors:
    1. Optical aberrations: The cloudy area might be caused by optical aberrations in your eyes, such as irregularities in the shape of the cornea or lens.
    2. Cataracts: Cataracts are characterized by the clouding of the eye's natural lens, which can cause visual disturbances, including reduced clarity and a cloudy appearance.
    3. Other eye conditions: There are several eye conditions that can affect vision and cause a cloudy appearance, such as certain types of corneal abnormalities or retinal issues.

It's important to consult with an eye care professional, such as an optometrist or ophthalmologist, to discuss your specific symptoms and concerns.
