Please help with "bifocal" contacts

Discussion in 'Contact Lenses' started by Nancy Mickleberry, Feb 10, 2004.

  1. Hi, I am looking for an alternative to glasses in every room, different
glasses to read than for computer, etc. My distance vision is near
perfect. My readers are +2.00. My doc has me trying monvision with one
B&L Softlens Multifocal in one eye (High Add +0.75), nothing in the
other and I am trying modified monovision with same in right eye and one
single lens +0.25 in the other eye to reduce the rivalry between the eyes.

I cannot tolerate the nonovision as I use the computer all day in my
job. I asked my doc to let me try Acuvue Bifocals but he said there
wasn't much success with those. I think he doesn't even dispense them. I
have already used up all my insurance allowed on this fitting and would
have to pay out of the pocket to go another doc just to try different
    contacts.

Should my doc be able to provide different brands of contacts? I would
like to try Focus Progressives and Acuvue Bifocals. Or will I
experience the same result, can see find up close, distance terribly
    blurred?

I haven't had much luck with either the ciba or acuvue multifocal- I've had
much more succes the the Cooper frequency 55 multifocal and the B&L Soflens
multi. I'm not sure why he hasn't tried the multifocal in both eyes instead of
the modified monovision - if you can accept a little compromise in the distance
vision, a binocular multifocal fit is the way to go.
