Question about buying contacts online

I'm considering getting into multi-focal contacts and want to figure out the
ongoing cost. Is buying contacts online a safe way to save money (after the
initial fit by an OD of course)? I remember from having worn contacts
previously that it's not just about the prescription, but also the curvature
of the eye. Can lenses that are correct in every aspect be bought online?

  2. Buying contacts usually requires that you have a prescription which is
    always for a specific brand.

Buying glasses usually requires a prescription but is usually not brand
specific. One can also buy prescription glasses without a prescription
from some sources. Most recently I purchased some pairs of glasses from
    zennioptical.com for $8 USD each.
