Hi! I am looking for some advice on a patient I saw the other day. He presented with a red eye which he had for two days after getting dust in his eye at work. He went to GP and was given chloramphenicol which he had used for one day on seeing me.

Bulbar conjunctiva slightly red, cornea and AC clear, IOPs normal and VA 6/6. He told me how he was putting in the drops and as it was incorrect I explained how to do it and advised to continue with the drops but that he should see an improvement. I advised to return to us or GP if no improvement by the next day.

He returned 3 days later and my colleague saw him and said pupil was constricted and thought possible flare in AC so referred with suspect iritis. I was concerned that I had sent him away but the AC was definitely clear and pupil normal when I saw him. Should I have referred anyway when I saw him?

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thank you
