i am about 6 weeks past surgery, the gas bubble around 10%, and have
pretty sharp vision except for severe distortion in center of visual
field. small objects disappear when at center and vertical lines
converge there. i am interested in whether this may disappear over
    time.
I notice after keeping the eye in the dark for a while and then
looking at a bright background, an "ink spot" pattern manifests at
center of vision field which i assume is associated with the
distortion. it goes away as the eye adjusts to light. Could this be
caused by vitreous remnant beneath the retina? If so, will it be
absorbed over time? My doctor detects no detachment and retina
appears healthy. Anybody with similar experience?

    same problem here.

    Hi Jeff,

    I have this similar situation.

I went through few surgery for retinal detachment.
now, vision acuity is not bad but distortion is so bad. small object become disappear, and very distorted central image. i also see black spot in dark and disappear after a while in light.

Could you share your recovery? any improvement?

    Thanks so much!

    hey jeff n moodblender,

i am also in the boat with u guys :) not a nice boat but culd be worse! i have had 7 fairly big operations since october 2008 to correct my detached retina so i knw what you guys are going thru, IT SUCKS lol. but it builds patience! my retina detached durin a "straight forward" lens proceedure n operation after operation has ensued! the most important thing to remember is that it takes time to heal, dont stress everytime u see that shadow or floating black inky mark, these disperse with time.

im not an expert or a doc but if u guys or anybody readin this wants to vent or just ask anythin, gas bubble, face down recovery, early warning signs or anythin retinal based drop me a line

best wishes n speedy recovery to ya all
    john

    another su

Hi Jay O Mack and others. I am 4 weeks post op for a RD - have gas injected and a scleral buckle. I'm noticing in the last few days that I am seeing a white half circle shape float from the bottom centre of my vision across to the inner eye, up and then it's gone. Is this something you have experienced? I'm a bit concerned that it is another detachment or tear and frankly, I'm kind of fearful of calling my doc about it. Thanks for any advice.

    Retinal detachment

I had RD 25 days ago including gas bubble. I have a small bubble left that has floated to the top - hoping it ill go soon as I am due to fly to the USA from the UK in 16 days time! Vision is without shadows but everything looks distorted - longer obscure and wavey. Has anyone else had this experience and has it improved over time. I had a cattaract operation in this eye a year ago and a retinal repair to my left eye 6 weeks ago. Thanks for an reply - Bryan

Hey Bryan - sounds like you are healing well if you can already begin to see. From other forums/websites I've been reading, your vision sounds like it should - apparently, eyesight will "settle" in 3-4 months with final settled vision taking about a year. I would check with doctor about flying though - I was told that any gas in eye means you should not be on a plane due to the pressure issues while flying. Be careful!!

I still do not have vision (surgery on july 17). Discovered yday that I have developed a cataract and will need surgery for that next week. Cannot tell if my retina has attached either due to the cataract. Fingers crossed it did attach. Take care - Sandra.

    Recovery Information Needed

    Hi John,

My mom had a retina detachment surgery one month back. Retina is attached and gas bubble is also gone. But her vision is very poor and blurred. She is not able to see clearly all objects. All images are blurred. Any ideas why this has happened and wht is the solutions for this problem.

    Thanks,
    Mehul

Depends on how the detachment was treated. Sometimes, due to the prior interventions for the detachment, there's too much scarring to effectively complete the surgery. Aside from that, you should be good to go. Find a good, experienced doctor to evaluate you.
