RGP impact on astigmatism

I've been wearing RGP for a while now. My glasses prescription is/was
basically all 0/180 astigmatism in both eyes, about 1D. Vision with
the contacts in is better in my right eye than my left. Comparing with
friends, I think my right eye vision is better than average, but my
left is slightly below. I notice a significant difference when
indoors, but not really any outside in the sun.

Another thing I've noticed is that with my contacts out I'm getting
significant "ortho-k effect" such that I normally go the weekend
without the lenses. I mostly only find my uncorrected vision
objectionable in dimly lit situations and when driving. Anyway, on my
left eye, it seems like my uncorrected astigmatism has rotated 90
degrees. Where the blurring was up/down before, it seems left/right
instead. It's very noticeable reading white on black text on the
computer. If I look at something like an LED in a dark room, I do see
some vertical blurring, but also a left/right doubling - the double is
very close to the real thing, such that the LED needs to be small for
    them to be distinct.

I'm going back to see my optometrist next week, but I was wondering if
what I've described indicates what the best route might be to fine tune
    the left lens?
