I wear glasses and my lenses have small scratches on them. I do not
notice the scratches when I am wearing the glasses. Will the
scratches make my vision worse over time?

My myopic husband's glasses are truly filthy (he may clean them every
few months, but you can't prove it by me!), but he doesn't notice it at
all. He's less myopic now than he was 50 years ago, in fact :)

I, on the other hand, am driven nuts by smudges or scratches on my
glasses and have to clean them several times a day on the bottom of my
    cotton T-shirt. I don't know whether that's a personal idiosyncrasy or
    a characteristic of hyperopia.

Just a characteristic of a plus glasses wearer Bev.
Plus wearers notice the scratches when wearing there glasses where minus
wearers notice the scratches when they have the glasses in their hands.
Ask Robert Martellaro, I suppose he can explain better why.
